28 July, 2026 15:37

A case has been registered against Noreen Niazi, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Islamabad under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the FIR, Noreen Niazi allegedly made false and baseless accusations against the Pakistani state and its institutions, including the armed forces, during a podcast interview. The FIR said she attempted to undermine public trust in state institutions and create fear and unrest.

The complaint also alleged that she used social media to spread false, provocative, insulting and threatening content and carried out what was described as organized propaganda against state and security institutions.

The case was registered under Sections 20 and 26-A of PECA 2016 and Sections 505 and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the FIR, the controversial interview was shared and circulated on various X (formerly Twitter) accounts. It also alleged that Noreen Niazi attempted to deny the achievements of the Pakistan Armed Forces during the “Marka-e-Haq.”

The NCCIA said that her statements were allegedly aimed at creating hatred, fear and distrust against state institutions and damaging the reputation of state and defence institutions.

The agency said Noreen Niazi had been repeatedly directed through notices to record her statement and join the investigation. According to the NCCIA, the case was registered after initial evidence indicated that an offence had prima facie been committed, while the role of other individuals would be determined during the investigation.
