One Killed, Two Injured in Targeted Shooting in Mexico City’s Historic Center

28 July, 2026 19:48

A 42-year-old man was killed and two 39-year-old men were injured in what authorities described as a targeted shooting in the center of Mexico City. According to the city’s Security Secretariat, the attack took place on Monday in Santo Domingo Square and is being investigated as a direct assault.

Police said the suspected gunmen fled the scene on a motorcycle immediately after the shooting, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible. The incident occurred in Santo Domingo Square, an area surrounded by colonial-era buildings that has long been associated with the production and sale of forged documents.

While gun violence linked to organized crime is common in regions dominated by drug trafficking groups, such attacks are relatively rare in Mexico City. Nevertheless, authorities have noted the presence of local criminal organizations, including the Union Tepito and Fuerza Anti-Union gangs, which have been involved in violent disputes and illicit activities in parts of the capital.
