Ogra Raises RLNG Prices Increase by Up to 34.6% in Pakistan

01 August, 2026 16:28

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has increased the prices of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) by up to 34.6% for July 2026, adding to inflationary pressure on consumers.

The increase came after Pakistan received only five LNG cargoes during July, making it the third-lowest monthly import volume since the country started importing LNG, according to The News.

Consumers of Sui Southern Gas Company in Sindh and other southern areas will face the biggest increase. RLNG prices for SSGC customers have risen by $6.4512 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) to $25.087, an increase of 34.6%.

Meanwhile, consumers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in northern areas will pay $25.8388 per MMBtu, following an increase of $6.316, or 32.35%.

RLNG prices in Pakistan have increased by more than 144% since the Middle East conflict began on February 28. Pakistan LNG Limited purchased all five July cargoes from the international spot market, where prices are generally higher and more volatile.

Pakistan State Oil did not import any LNG during the month under its long-term contracts with Qatar. The shortage of these supplies has increased pressure on the country’s LNG imports.

The situation became more difficult after drone strikes damaged Qatari energy infrastructure on March 2. QatarEnergy, the world’s largest LNG exporter, declared force majeure and suspended shipments to several customers, including Pakistan.

Pakistan currently has limited options for securing cheaper LNG supplies from Qatar. Unless tensions in the Middle East ease, the country may continue purchasing more expensive LNG from the spot market, increasing costs for consumers.
