Israel Accused of Heavy Chemical Weapons Attack on Lebanese Village Amid Peace Talks

Israel has been accused of using chemical weapons during an attack on a Lebanese village in southern Lebanon while peace talks are underway.

According to Lebanon’s official National News Agency, Israeli forces carried out an attack using chemical bombs in the Mansouri area of southern Lebanon.

Human Rights Watch has said that Israel has used white phosphorus in at least 18 villages since October 2023. The organisation said the use of the substance caused cases of suffocation and forced thousands of residents to leave their homes.

In March 2026, Human Rights Watch Lebanon researcher Ramzi Qais said the reported use of white phosphorus by Israeli forces in populated areas was extremely concerning and could have serious consequences for civilians.

Qais said the incendiary effects of white phosphorus can cause death or severe injuries that may leave victims suffering for the rest of their lives.

The allegations come as efforts to maintain peace and reduce tensions in the region continue.
