IRGC: Strait of Hormuz Reopening Depends on US Acceptance of Iran’s Conditions

An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman has said the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depends on the United States fully accepting Iran’s conditions and ending its interference in regional negotiations. Speaking at a National Journalists’ Day ceremony in Bandar Abbas on Saturday, Brigadier General Hossein Mohebi said the decision to reopen the strategic waterway would be based on Iran’s own mechanisms and conditions and was not linked to negotiations between Iran and Oman.

Mohebi described the Strait of Hormuz as a key component of Iran’s geopolitical and strategic power rather than merely an economic waterway. He said the strait would be reopened once Washington accepted Tehran’s conditions and stopped interfering in regional negotiations. According to the IRGC spokesman, the waterway’s status is therefore tied to broader strategic and political developments rather than the Iran-Oman talks.

Discussing the wider consequences of the war, Mohebi said geography had returned to the centre of modern military calculations after years of being given less importance. He argued that the Strait of Hormuz had evolved from a conventional economic passage into an instrument of geopolitical power and warfare, highlighting its strategic importance to regional security and global markets.
