President Zardari Approves Military Honours for 1,172 Personnel
ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday approved several summaries sent by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, including those related to military honours, national awards and the summoning of Parliament.
According to the President’s Secretariat, “The president has approved the awarding of military honours to 1,172 personnel from the armed forces and civil armed forces.”
The president also approved the summoning of the National Assembly and Senate on August 17. “The president has approved summoning the National Assembly session on August 17 at 5pm and the Senate session at 4pm,” the statement said.
President Zardari also approved a special 100-day remission in the sentences of eligible prisoners on the occasion of Independence Day and Eid Miladun Nabi.
In addition, the president approved national honours for citizens from different civil sectors in recognition of their services.
Earlier this week, President Zardari gave his assent to the appointment of 19 additional judges to five high courts and confirmed another five judges as permanent members of the judiciary. The decision ended a weeks-long deadlock between the Presidency and the government over judicial appointments.
