Pakistan has called on the international community to take concrete steps to end the continued Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, stressing that lasting peace cannot be achieved while settlement expansion, settler violence and forced displacement continue.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad highlighted the worsening situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and questioned the effectiveness of the ceasefire amid continued Israeli attacks.
He said more than 1,200 Palestinians had been killed since the ceasefire came into effect, raising serious questions about how the truce could be considered effective while attacks continue.
Asim Iftikhar Ahmad called for an immediate end to illegal Israeli settlement expansion and the forced displacement of Palestinians. He stressed that the annexation of occupied territories must not be accepted, noting that all members of the Security Council oppose such actions.
The Pakistani envoy also called for accountability for those responsible for war crimes and other serious violations, emphasizing that lasting peace requires both justice and meaningful political commitments.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people, he said Islamabad would continue to stand with Palestinians in their struggle for self-determination and their legitimate rights.
Pakistan, he added, believes that a just and comprehensive settlement is the only way to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
He reiterated Pakistan’s support for an independent Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
