ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Kuwait on Thursday signed a new defence agreement to expand military cooperation, including training, capacity building and border management.

Senior officials from both countries signed the “Protocol Agreement-2026” in Islamabad. The agreement strengthens the military cooperation framework established under the “Defence Cooperation Agreement-2023”, according to the Ministry of Defence.

The agreement was signed as a high-level Kuwaiti delegation, led by Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah, met Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

“During the meeting, matters of mutual interest were discussed, with particular focus on bilateral defence relations, security cooperation and further strengthening defence ties between Pakistan and Kuwait,” the ministry said.

Under the new agreement, the Armed Forces of Pakistan will provide assistance to the Armed Forces of Kuwait in areas including training, capacity building, border management and other mutually agreed fields of defence cooperation.

“The agreement reflects the deep trust, mutual respect and shared strategic interests underpinning the longstanding defence relationship between the two brotherly countries.”

The ministry said both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the partnership in support of mutual security and regional peace and stability.

Earlier, the Kuwaiti delegation met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR said the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defence cooperation.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional ties and expanding mutually beneficial defence cooperation.

“The Kuwaiti delegation appreciated the professionalism, operational excellence and valuable contributions of the Pakistan Armed Forces towards regional peace and stability.”

“The engagement reaffirmed the resolve of Pakistan and Kuwait to further consolidate their historic and brotherly relations into a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial defence partnership, contributing to regional security and stability.”
