Resistance Attacks Against Taliban Intensify Across Afghanistan

KABUL: Resistance groups have stepped up attacks against the Taliban regime in recent days, with operations reported across several Afghan provinces, targeting Taliban personnel, checkpoints and installations.

According to details released by the resistance groups, attacks have been reported in Kabul, Kunar, Badakhshan, Kandahar, Faryab, Ghor, Nangarhar, Ghazni, Laghman and Herat.

The Afghan Freedom Front (AFF), Afghan United Front (AUF), National Resistance Front (NRF) and Afghan Green Trend have claimed responsibility for a series of operations against Taliban positions.

The Afghan Freedom Front said its first guerrilla operation in Ghazni was carried out on August 28, targeting Taliban forces.

According to the group, Mullah Omar Siddiq, deputy commander of the Taliban’s Unit 06, was killed in the attack. The AFF also claimed that a small firearm and a pistol belonging to the Taliban commander were seized.

On the same day, heavy clashes were reported in Zebak district of Badakhshan. The AFF claimed that Taliban forces deployed additional personnel from Kabul to the area but were forced to retreat following a counterattack by AFF commandos.

The group said the fighting lasted for several hours and caused heavy casualties and material losses to the Taliban.

Afghan Green Trend claimed that its fighters attacked a Taliban Ministry of Defense ranger unit in Laghman on August 28.

The group claimed that nine Taliban personnel were killed in the attack, adding that the casualty figure was obtained from what it described as confidential Taliban police documents.

The National Resistance Front claimed that it targeted the Taliban’s Al-Farouq Corps in Herat on August 28.

According to the group, the intelligence commander of the Al-Farouq Corps was wounded in the attack.

The Afghan United Front claimed that two Taliban positions in Helmand were targeted on August 30, resulting in the deaths of three Taliban personnel. Weapons and ammunition were also reportedly seized.

The group further claimed that a Taliban checkpoint in the Nowzad area of Helmand was attacked on the same day, killing six Taliban personnel.

According to the AUF, five Kalashnikov rifles, an RPG launcher, a grenade launcher and other equipment were seized during the operation.

The group also claimed responsibility for an attack on a Taliban police district in Asadabad, the capital of Kunar, on August 30, in which two Taliban personnel were reportedly killed.

The AUF claimed that a Taliban intelligence official was targeted and killed in Jalalabad on August 29.

On August 28, the group also claimed an attack on a Taliban checkpoint along the Faryab-Ghor highway, killing two Taliban personnel and injuring three others.

The AUF further claimed that three Taliban personnel were killed in an attack on a Taliban checkpoint in Kandahar on August 26. Two M16 rifles and a Kalashnikov rifle were reportedly seized following the operation.

According to the combined claims issued by the resistance groups, 27 Taliban personnel were killed and four others wounded in the reported operations.

The claims were issued by the respective resistance groups and could not be independently verified. Access to several parts of Afghanistan remains limited, making independent confirmation of casualties and battlefield developments difficult.
