Iranian Cardiologist Wins Gold Medal at Geneva International Invention Competition

Iranian professor of cardiology, echocardiography and cardio-oncology Dr. Azin Alizadeh Asl has won a gold medal at an international invention competition in Geneva, Switzerland, for developing an innovative technique to enhance transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) images. Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education announced on Monday that the award recognizes her pioneering method for improving image clarity, which could help increase the accuracy of cardiovascular diagnoses and contribute to better treatment outcomes.

Alizadeh Asl is a cardiovascular specialist and professor at Rajaei Cardiovascular Medical and Research Center in Tehran. She founded Iran’s cardio-oncology subspecialty fellowship program and currently heads the Iranian Cardio-Oncology Association. She has previously developed several innovations in cardiovascular medicine, including Holter echocardiography, while conducting research into the management of cardiac toxicity. She is also credited with identifying left ventricular dyssynchrony as an early indicator of cardiotoxicity.

The Iranian physician has authored around 450 scientific papers and 30 specialized books, with her reference work Practical Cardiology previously receiving the international Doody Award. She is a member of the Iranian Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Elites Foundation. The Health Ministry described her latest recognition as a significant international scientific achievement in cardiovascular medicine, highlighting the potential of her imaging technique to improve the detection and management of heart diseases.
