Pakistan, Iran Discuss Bilateral Ties and Regional Situation as Makkah Defense Pact Seeks Stronger Regional Unity

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee under the Makkah Joint Defence Pact would produce meaningful results. He stressed that regional countries should take joint measures to promote peace and stability.

Fidan said the alliance was not directed against any particular country, emphasizing that its doors remained open to all brotherly states. He said the official name of the alliance was the Makkah Defense Pact and expressed the desire to establish a strong alliance capable of addressing and resolving regional challenges.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is visiting Bishkek to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The Iranian president came outside the building to personally receive Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif upon his arrival.

During their meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Pezeshkian discussed Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations and the regional situation. The two leaders exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and developments affecting peace, security and stability in the region.
