PM Shehbaz, Iranian President Discuss Bilateral Ties, Regional Peace in Bishkek

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a meeting in Bishkek, where they reviewed Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations and regional developments. Both leaders reaffirmed the close and longstanding ties between the two countries and stressed the importance of further strengthening cooperation across all areas of mutual interest.

The two leaders emphasized the need to implement decisions taken during President Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan in June. They also reviewed ongoing efforts to promote regional connectivity and increase people-to-people contacts, while stressing the importance of expanding cooperation in various sectors.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan would continue its sincere efforts for peace in the region, emphasizing restraint, tolerance and diplomatic engagement as the way forward. He expressed hope that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s recent visit to Tehran and constructive engagements would yield positive results, while stressing the need to advance understandings reached under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, calling it the only viable path toward lasting regional peace.

President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic efforts for regional peace and security, saying Iran-Pakistan relations were rooted in shared history, culture and religion. He expressed Tehran’s strong desire to expand cooperation in different fields and highlighted the need for unity and solidarity to address contemporary challenges. Prime Minister Shehbaz invited President Pezeshkian to visit Pakistan, while the Iranian president invited the prime minister to attend the upcoming Economic Cooperation Organization summit.
