Iraq Closes Three Iran Border Crossings After Saudi Pipeline Drone Attack

Three border crossings between Iraq and Iran have been closed following a drone strike on a Saudi oil pipeline AFP reported, citing officials. The move came after both Riyadh and Baghdad said the drones involved in the attack had been launched from Iraq.

In the aftermath of the attack, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi give notice the military commander in Missan province, which borders Iran. Authorities stated strongminded that the drones had been launched from the area. The move came as Iraq amplified determinations to respond to the incident and recognize those responsible.

So far, no group has taken responsibility for the attack. However, an alliance of powerful Iraqi armed groups deprived of carrying out the strike on the Saudi pipeline. Riyadh has earlier indicted some of these groups of pointing its oil infrastructure. The latest incident has raised concerns over security along Iraq’s borders and regional energy infrastructure.
