1965 War: Pakistan Repulses Another Indian Attack in Sialkot Sector on 15th Day

RAWALPINDI: The 15th day of the September 1965 war saw intense fighting across several sectors, with Pakistani forces repulsing another Indian assault in the Sialkot sector and inflicting heavy losses on advancing troops, according to Pakistani military accounts.

India’s 1 Corps had planned to capture positions at Badianah, Chawinda and Zafarwal, but faced strong resistance from Pakistani forces.

The resistance forced the Indian command to alter its plan, although the revised strategy also failed to achieve its objectives.

At the Pasrur-Hasri Nullah sector, Pakistani artillery fire reportedly destroyed four tanks belonging to India’s 16 Cavalry.

The Pakistan Air Force also carried out airstrikes against Indian positions in the area, with eight fighter aircraft taking part in the attacks.

The combined artillery and air operations reportedly forced Indian troops to withdraw from the Hasri Nullah area.

Pakistani forces also captured an Indian military post in the Gadro sector, according to the account.

Indian troops reportedly abandoned their weapons and equipment while withdrawing from the position.

In the Rajouri sector, an attack by Mujahideen reportedly killed 21 Indian soldiers and wounded several others.

The Pakistan Air Force also conducted strikes against several important Indian military targets during the day.

Pakistani accounts say targets in Srinagar, Adampur, Jodhpur, Halwara and Pathankot were attacked.

Across the Sialkot, Jammu, Wagah, Attari and Gadro sectors, Pakistani forces reportedly destroyed 22 Indian tanks, 51 vehicles and several gun positions.

The Pakistan Navy also continued its wartime preparations.

The submarine PNS Ghazi was reportedly ready to return to sea after undergoing routine maintenance, reinforcing the Navy’s operational readiness during the conflict.

The war effort also received support from civilians in Pakistan.

In Rawalpindi, women volunteered to assist with the care of wounded personnel at hospitals.

A large number of former military personnel also reportedly offered their services to the Pakistan Armed Forces.
