OIC Condemns Houthi Militia Attacks on Makkah and Madinah Region

JEDDAH: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has condemned attacks attributed to the Houthi militia against Makkah and the Madinah region, as well as what it described as continuing attacks against Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the OIC said the reported attacks had caused fear among civilians, threatened the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and mosques, and risked provoking Muslims around the world.

The OIC described the reported attacks against holy sites, mosques and civilian infrastructure as acts of terrorism and said such actions were incompatible with Islamic values and international law.

It stressed that any violation of the sanctity of the holy sites was unacceptable and called for measures to deter those responsible and prevent further incidents.

The OIC expressed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and said it supported measures taken by the Kingdom to protect the holy sites, civilians and its national security.

The organisation also reaffirmed support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement comes after Saudi authorities reported the interception of a drone near Makkah, attributing the incident to the Houthi militia. The militia has denied targeting the holy city.

The OIC’s statement underscores growing regional and international concern over security around Makkah and Madinah amid escalating tensions involving Saudi Arabia and the Houthi militia.
