Pakistan Highlights Military Successes on 21st Day of 1965 War

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has highlighted a series of military operations and battlefield engagements on the 21st day of the September 1965 war with India, particularly along the Sialkot, Khem Karan, Hussainiwala, Fazilka and Rajasthan sectors.

According to the Pakistani account of the conflict, Pakistani forces achieved significant battlefield successes in several sectors as the war entered its third week.

In the Sialkot sector, Pakistan Army units engaged Indian forces in a major tank battle. Pakistani forces said they destroyed six enemy tanks and inflicted heavy casualties during the fighting.

In the Fazilka sector, Pakistani troops captured 11 Indian tanks, six machine guns and a large quantity of ammunition, while also destroying three anti-tank guns, according to the account.

In the Rajasthan sector, Indian forces attempted to advance but were pushed back by Pakistani troops.

The Pakistan Air Force also conducted operations against Indian military targets during the conflict. Pakistani accounts state that an Indian Canberra aircraft was shot down near Sargodha and a Hunter aircraft was brought down near Lahore.

The Pakistan Air Force also carried out strikes against Indian airfields and military installations in Adam Pur, Halwara and Jodhpur.

The Pakistan Navy remained on alert throughout the conflict, maintaining readiness to counter Indian aggression and protect Pakistan’s maritime boundaries.

The Sialkot front saw some of the largest tank engagements of the 1965 war, including the Battle of Phillora, which has been described by military historians as one of the major tank battles of the post-World War II era.
