Charles Spencer Discusses Harry and Meghan as Diana Book Sparks Royal Controversy

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been drawn into the controversy surrounding Charles Spencer’s new book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, which is set to be released next week.

The book contains several claims about the late Princess Diana and her relationship with the Royal Family. Neither Prince William nor Prince Harry is believed to have known the full contents of the book in advance. However, Harry is known to have a closer connection with their maternal uncle and stayed with Spencer during his visit to the UK in July.

While talking with interviewer in BBC, Spencer conversed that the way Harry and Meghan have been treated by the media. He said their experience has echoes of what Diana went through during her lifetime. Spencer described the intense media attention as a harmful influence and said people should learn from Diana’s experience.

He also rejected the idea that he supports Harry over William. Spencer said he is on the side of both of Diana’s sons and would be there for either of them if they needed him.

Swan Song: Diana, My Sister writer, also talk about his new memoir and he chose to share personal memories of the Royal Family. He said he definite to write the book since he had witnessed significant moments in history.

Spencer has also faced criticism over his claims about King Charles. In the book, he alleged that the then-Prince Charles reacted angrily after Diana’s death and told him, “We’ll forget her soon enough.” Spencer has repeated the claim in interviews and said he told close friends and family about the conversation at the time.

Buckingham Palace disputed his account. In a statement, the Palace said grief can affect judgment and memory, even many years after a loss.

Spencer has also recalled his concern for Harry during Diana’s funeral in 1997. Harry was only 12 when he walked behind his mother’s coffin with William and other members of the family. Spencer said he remembered Harry as very young and believed he needed more care and support after the funeral.

Royal commentators have questioned how the revelations could affect Spencer’s relationships with William and Harry. Harry’s previous stay with his uncle suggests they remain close, but the ongoing controversy could put him in a difficult position as he continues to maintain ties with both his family and Diana’s legacy.
