At Least 11 Injured in Shooting Outside High School in Turkey

At least 11 people, including students, were injured when a gunman opened fire outside Inci Uzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Turgutlu district of Manisa province, western Turkey, on Tuesday morning. According to local media, the incident occurred at around 7:59 a.m. local time. The governor’s office said the injured were taken to a nearby medical facility, with two reportedly in serious condition. Police and medical teams reached the scene, while security around the school was increased.

Security forces arrested the suspected shooter after he allegedly attempted to flee the scene. The governor’s office confirmed that the suspect had been taken into custody, while Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said four people had been detained in connection with the incident. Authorities launched an investigation into the motive, and images circulating online reportedly showed the suspect carrying a firearm near the school.

The shooting comes amid concerns over school violence in Turkey, following two other school shootings in recent months. In April, a 14-year-old reportedly opened fire at a school in Kahramanmaras province, killing nine students aged 10 and 11 and a teacher before dying at the scene. In a separate incident, a former student shot and wounded 16 people, mostly students, at his former high school in Sanliurfa province before taking his own life after confronting police.
