UN Confirms Contact With Pakistan Over Efforts to End US-Iran War

The United Nations has confirmed that it is in contact with Pakistan as part of diplomatic efforts to help end the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the world body had been in contact with Pakistani officials regarding efforts to promote dialogue and reduce tensions.

Dujarric also acknowledged Pakistan’s role in the Islamabad understanding reached between the United States and Iran in June, describing the diplomatic process as an important development.

He said Pakistan and other regional countries had played a role in the earlier diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.

According to the UN, a resumption of negotiations between the two sides could help create a path toward ending the conflict.

Dujarric urged the parties to pursue diplomacy and dialogue to resolve their differences, stressing that a sustainable solution to the crisis requires meaningful negotiations.

The United Nations has previously supported efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire and restarting talks between the United States and Iran.

Pakistan has continued diplomatic engagement with regional and international stakeholders as part of efforts to encourage dialogue and reduce the risk of further escalation.
