Afghan United Front Claims New Attacks on Taliban Positions in Kabul and Kandahar

KABUL: Armed resistance against the Taliban regime in Afghanistan has continued, with the Afghan United Front claiming responsibility for targeted operations against Taliban positions and figures in Kabul and Kandahar.

The latest claims come amid renewed reports of armed activity by anti-Taliban resistance groups. The Afghan United Front emerged as a new armed resistance group earlier this year and has announced a series of operations against Taliban targets.

According to the Afghan United Front, its fighters targeted a post belonging to a Taliban special unit linked to the intelligence directorate in Kabul.

The group said the operation was carried out as part of its continuing armed campaign against the Taliban regime.

The Afghan United Front also said it carried out a targeted operation in central Kandahar against a Taliban-affiliated figure identified as Mullah Thabit.

According to the group, Mullah Thabit was an important accountant within the Taliban’s financial system and was associated with the so-called Aref network.

The Afghan United Front said he was killed in the operation. The claim has not been independently verified.
