Pezeshkian Welcomes China’s Support for Islamabad MoU, Calls for US to Honor Commitments

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s support for reviving the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), stressing the need for Washington to honor commitments made under the agreement. Pezeshkian said Iran supports resolving differences through dialogue and diplomacy and emphasized the importance of returning to the framework, fulfilling previously agreed commitments and creating conditions for substantive negotiations.

Xi Jinping had urged US President Donald Trump during their Thursday summit to respect the June agreement with Iran and return to the diplomatic process outlined under the understanding. China has repeatedly backed the restoration of the Islamabad framework, with Foreign Minister Wang Yi telling his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on September 16 that Beijing supported renewed negotiations based on agreements already reached.

Meanwhile, Araghchi said Tehran has presented Washington with a seven-day diplomatic proposal through Qatar aimed at ending the conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon, and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He said the strait could be reopened within seven days if Washington accepts Iran’s conditions, while stressing that Tehran would not accept coercion, threats or intimidation.
