Iraqi Resistance Group Condemns Suspension of Iranian Flights, Threatens Airport Sit-Ins

Iraqi resistance group Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba has condemned the Baghdad government’s decision to suspend Iranian airline operations following US sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation sector. Secretary-General Akram al-Kaabi said the group would not wait long and warned that it could organize sit-ins at Iraqi airports across the country unless normal air traffic between Iraq and Iran is restored.

Kaabi urged Iraqi political forces to break what he described as “American dominance,” arguing that the restrictions were preventing millions of people from traveling to religious sites and were damaging Iraq’s economy. The statement comes amid heightened tensions over the impact of US sanctions on Iran and their consequences for neighboring countries.

Separately, Kata’ib Hezbollah called on Iraqi society to oppose what it termed the “US siege on Iran.” The group urged Iraqis to support economic ties with Iran by purchasing Iranian goods and facilitating commercial relations, while also calling on Shia religious authorities to issue a fatwa on whether assisting measures that contribute to the economic pressure on Iran is religiously permissible.
