05 October, 2026 16:14

PESHAWAR: Traders staged a protest against the PTI long march at Assembly Chowk in Peshawar and burned tyres on the road.

The protesters blocked Khyber Road for traffic, causing long queues of vehicles. The traders were carrying black flags, while delegations from different trader groups also took part in the protest.

People from minority communities, politicians and members of different sections of society also joined the demonstration. The protesters chanted slogans against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

The traders said the provincial government had left the people without proper support for the past 13 years. They rejected the government and said inflation and unemployment had reached high levels in the province.

They claimed that the province had been moving towards destruction since Sohail Afridi took office.

The traders said PTI lawmakers and workers were busy with the march, while arrested PTI workers had not been properly supported. They also accused the provincial government of disappointing traders and the public.

They said the closure of roads had badly affected businesses, despite billions of rupees in trade with Punjab. They added that traders and the public were already struggling with high inflation.

The traders said they would continue their protest with the public if the government failed to respond to their concerns. They warned that protests would be held across the province if their demands were not addressed.
