Taylor Swift to Perform at Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles

Pop superstar Taylor Swift is set to perform at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on October 17, bringing the evening to a close as the event honours Charlize Theron, Colman Domingo and filmmaker-composer John Carpenter.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures announced Swift’s appearance on Thursday. Museum director and president Amy Homma praised the singer, saying, “Taylor is an extraordinary talent whose work resonates around the world.”

The sixth annual gala raises funds for the museum’s exhibitions, film screenings and educational programmes. Director Robert Rodriguez, filmmaker Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw are serving as co-chairs for this year’s event.

The host committee features several prominent names from the entertainment industry, including Kirsten Dunst, Kate Hudson, Jessica Lange, Demi Moore, Rami Malek, Seth Rogen and Questlove.

Details about Swift’s performance have not yet been shared. The museum has also not announced any plans to broadcast or stream the event.

The Academy Museum Gala is regarded as an important event for filmmakers and actors hoping to attract attention during awards season. Billboard also noted that Swift has four recently released songs she could include in her set.

Swift’s most recent performance took place in August at the Grammy Museum, where she performed a mashup of All Too Well, I Knew It, I Knew You and August.

She was also recently recognised at the MTV Video Music Awards, where she received the first-ever Artist-Director Award.

Homma said the museum was looking forward to Swift closing the evening, which celebrates three influential figures in filmmaking while supporting the institution’s mission to celebrate and preserve cinema.
