Yemen Claims Over 400 Saudi-Backed Fighters Killed and Wounded in Lahij

11 October, 2026 17:10

Yemeni Armed Forces, backed by allied fighters from popular committees, have reportedly inflicted heavy casualties on Saudi-backed forces in Yemen’s southwestern province of Lahij. According to a report quoting an unnamed senior Yemeni source, Yemeni military units targeted the so-called Giants Brigades in the Ras al-Ara area on Saturday night, killing and injuring more than 400 fighters, including senior commanders. The claims have not been independently verified.

The source said the reported casualties had generated growing dissatisfaction among Saudi-backed fighters, while alleging that limitations in Saudi Arabia’s air defense systems had prompted Riyadh to increase its ground force deployments. The Yemeni official also claimed that Saudi Arabia had been surprised by the scale and precision of Yemeni missile attacks, which he said had complicated the kingdom’s military objectives and increased pressure on its operations against Yemen.

The report further claimed that concerns were growing in Saudi Arabia over the possibility of a prolonged conflict, with some businesses and financial stakeholders reportedly discussing relocation from the kingdom. However, it provided no details about the companies involved or evidence confirming the reported plans. The battlefield casualty figures, assessments of Saudi military capabilities and claims about potential business departures remain unverified.
