Foreign Lawyers Pursue Legal Action Against US Over Minab School Massacre

Gharibabadi said the US military strike on the Minab Elementary School had killed 168 people, including students, teachers, parents, school staff and sports players. Describing the incident as a grave atrocity, he argued that the targeting of a school filled with children constituted a war crime and a potential crime against humanity. He stressed that international humanitarian law provides protection for children, educational institutions, hospitals and civilian infrastructure. The casualty figures and allegations regarding responsibility for the attack were presented by Iranian officials and require independent verification.
The deputy foreign minister said Iran was pursuing a multi-layered legal strategy to hold those responsible accountable. He confirmed that the Iranian judiciary had issued a formal indictment and that evidence had been compiled by a specialised committee of experienced lawyers. Gharibabadi added that Tehran was preparing to initiate proceedings in foreign courts alongside cases already being pursued by international legal teams. He called for broader international legal cooperation, insisting that the United States should be held accountable for the alleged attack. The potential outcome of these proceedings will depend on the evidence presented, the jurisdiction of the courts involved and applicable international and domestic law.
