UN Security Council Condemns Houthi Militia Attacks on Saudi Arabia

The United Nations Security Council has condemned reported attacks by the Houthi militia on Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed the Kingdom’s right to defend itself, according to the supplied account of a unanimous council statement.

All 15 council members reportedly expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and described attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh as irresponsible. The statement also condemned reported attacks on Saudi airports and facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco.

The supplied report said the attacks had resulted in 14 deaths and more than 300 injuries. Those casualty figures were not independently verified within the material provided.

The council also expressed concern over threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, two important routes for international maritime trade. It emphasised freedom of navigation and respect for international humanitarian law.

Members called for an end to the provision of weapons, financial resources and technical assistance to the Houthi militia. The statement also stressed the need to preserve Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to implement Security Council Resolution 2216.

The council’s reported unanimous position highlights concerns over the security of Saudi Arabia and the risks posed to commercial shipping in waters surrounding Yemen.

Disruptions in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab can affect international supply chains, shipping costs and regional trade. The security of these routes is therefore a concern extending beyond the countries directly involved in the Yemen conflict.

The statement reinforces the international body’s focus on preventing further escalation, protecting maritime traffic and addressing threats to regional stability. The exact text and date of the reported statement were not included in the supplied material.
