Major Security Scare in Peshawar Averted as Police Defuse 11kg Bomb

Peshawar police and the Bomb Disposal Squad defused an 11-kilogram pressure-cooker bomb discovered inside a vacant house in the Hafizabad area of Yakka Toot, preventing a potential security incident in a densely populated neighbourhood.
According to the police information provided, authorities were alerted after a suspicious pressure cooker was found inside the property. A specialised Bomb Disposal Squad team reached the location and safely neutralised the device.
The house had reportedly been rented to an Afghan family five to six months earlier. Police said the suspicious object was discovered when the property was opened for construction work. The circumstances surrounding the device’s placement and the people responsible have not been established in the supplied information.
A letter has been sent to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for registration of a case, according to the police account.
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed praised the police and bomb disposal personnel for their timely response. He stressed that protecting the lives and property of the public remained a priority and that operations against terrorism would continue.
The incident highlights the importance of promptly reporting suspicious objects and allowing trained personnel to handle potential explosive devices. The discovery of a suspected bomb in a residential area can pose a serious risk to residents, nearby properties and emergency responders.
No details were provided about arrests, forensic findings or the intended target of the device. The investigation is expected to establish how the explosive material reached the property and whether the incident was connected to a wider security threat.
