KP Govt Orders Safety Survey of Public School Buildings Across Province
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department has asked the Communication and Works (C&W) Department to nominate qualified technical teams to inspect government school buildings across all districts of the province.
The decision comes after the tragic roof collapse at Al-Khair Education System in Peshawar’s Dir Colony, which resulted in the loss of precious lives and left students and teachers injured.
According to an official letter, the nominated technical teams will conduct detailed inspections of school buildings in coordination with the relevant district education authorities.
The inspections will cover roofs, walls, beams, foundations, staircases and other structural parts of the buildings. The teams will also identify possible structural defects and safety risks.
After the inspections, school buildings will be divided into three categories based on their condition and safety.
The letter directs the teams to immediately inform district authorities if any building poses an immediate threat to the lives of students or staff, without waiting for the completion of the survey.
Necessary safety measures will be taken for dangerous buildings. These may include restricting access to the buildings or temporarily suspending their use.
The teams will also submit a Building Safety Clearance Certificate or No Objection Certificate (NOC) for each school after the inspection.
The C&W Department has been directed to submit comprehensive inspection reports for all districts, including the classification of buildings, identified defects and recommended corrective measures.
All reports must be submitted by 12 noon on October 26, 2026.
The department has instructed the relevant authorities to complete the inspections on a priority basis to ensure the safety of students, teachers and other school staff.
