Modi Govt Accused of Misleading Public Over Indian Army Modernisation
The Modi government is reportedly presenting limited measures as major achievements in the modernisation of the Indian Army, raising questions about the actual progress of its military upgrades.
Controversial measures, including the Agniveer recruitment scheme, the production of AK-203 rifles and the introduction of new camouflage uniforms, are being described as military modernisation efforts.
According to NDTV, more than 68 per cent of the Indian Army’s combat equipment is considered obsolete or outdated, while the military continues to face budgetary constraints.
The report also comes amid criticism of the Indian military’s performance during the conflict referred to as Marka-e-Haq, in which the Indian Army reportedly suffered a defeat at the hands of Pakistan’s armed forces.
Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force continues to face aircraft accidents, with ageing technology and technical shortcomings cited as contributing concerns.
