Ukrainian Adviser Says Lack of US Missile Warnings Has Cost Lives

20 October, 2026 15:26

A key adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that people have died because Ukraine is not receiving reliable advance warnings from the United States about incoming Russian attacks. Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov told the BBC that the lack of sufficient warning time had prevented authorities from alerting civilians before ballistic missile strikes. He described the situation as dangerous and expressed concern over the loss of lives.

Beskrestnov also said restrictions affecting Ukraine’s use of the Starlink satellite internet network remained in place. Zelensky reported on Monday that two ballistic missile attacks had targeted Kyiv overnight, with one occurring without warning and the other allowing only minimal time for people to seek shelter. The Ukrainian president had earlier told NBC that intelligence sharing with Washington had resumed following a three-day pause.

The White House has denied any change in intelligence sharing with Ukraine, despite concerns in Kyiv over the reported disruptions. Tensions between the two countries have intensified amid a dispute with the Trump administration over a controversial arrangement to import Russian oil. Although Washington has rejected claims of changes to intelligence cooperation, Ukrainian officials remain concerned about the timing of the reported interruptions and their potential impact on civilian safety.
