PM’s special assistant hails media vanguard role in fight against Coronavirus.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan lauded media role today (Thursday).
PM’s special assistant hails media
She was talking to representatives of All Pakistan Newspapers Society, Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors, and Pakistan Broadcasters Association in Islamabad.
Awan said journalists and media are playing the role of vanguard in the fight against coronavirus.
She also assured the government will continue providing all possible facilities for promotion of independent and responsible media.
She said the PTI government fully believes in the basic democratic right of freedom of expression.
Moreover, she said freedom of media and democracy are complementary to each other.
Firdous Ashiq Awan said resolution of the problems attached with the media industry is our top priority.
She said Prime Minister Imran Khan has given clear directions for payment of the outstanding amount of media houses. She said there should not be any delay in payment of the dues.
Awan said welfare of journalists and media workers is among priorities of the government.
Confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan
Meanwhile, Pakistan confirmed Coronavirus cases also increased.
According to official sources, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus increased to 1865.
These include 652 cases in Punjab, 627 in Sindh while 221 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 153 Balochistan.
148 Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad 58 and six in Azad Kashmir.
Fifty- eight people have so far recovered from the disease while the number of deaths from the virus stands at twenty five.
