Pakistan Army Chief meets President Ghani and HNC chairman Abdullah

Pakistan Army Chief meets President Ghani and HNC chairman Abdullah Abdullah during his visit to Afghanistan today.

Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa held one-on-one meetings with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chairman High Council for National Reconciliation Dr. Abdullah Abdullah.

Both sides discussed current developments in Afghan peace process.

They also discussed necessary steps to be undertaken to facilitate an Afghan led and Afghan owned peace process.

Issues related to facilitation of trade and connectivity also came under discussion.

The two sides agreed that a dignified and time bound return of Afghan refugees from Pakistan a key towards normalcy.

President Ashraf Ghani expressed his appreciation for the Prime Minister Imran Khan for opening of Torkham and Chaman borders.

That opening allowed Afghan transit goods and facilitated Afghans to return to Afghanistan through land and air routes.

The Afghan President was also lauded the role which Pakistan played for Afghan peace process.

Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Affairs, Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq accompanied him.

Although Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a press release of the visit, it didn’t name other security officials who accompanied the army chief.

But social media groups gave images of DG ISI claiming that he also accompanied the COAS during visit to Afghanistan.
