Minister foresees domestic ventilators within next few weeks in Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain noted Pakistan has developed indigenous COVID-19 diagnostic kits.

In an interview with Arab News, he cited Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan had approved that for commercial use.

The Minister also expressed the hope regarding domestic ventilators.

He hoped Pakistan could approve locally manufactured ventilators within next few weeks, since clinical trials of four machines have already entered their final phase.

Meanwhile, he said the locally manufactured diagnostic kits would considerably bring down the cost of coronavirus tests in the country.

Fawad said once these trials are over, the commercial entities would be asked to start manufacturing the ventilators.

He said experts at the National University of Science and Technology developed the kits with more than 90 percent accuracy.

The minister called them about 20 percent better than the imported tests.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza underlined the smart lockdown necessary for running the wheel of national economy.

He said the government disagreed with proposal of World Health Organization for imposing 15 days lockdown and 15 days ease in it.

He urged people to act according to the Standard Operating Procedures which the government issued.
