Retired Captain Safdar arrested for violating sanctity of the Mazar e Quaid in Karachi.

Although Karachi Police arrested Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar on Monday morning, Sindh government had not ordered his arrest.

Police came to the hotel where Mr. Safdar, son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was staying.

Earlier, Brigade Police registered case against him, his wife Maryam Nawaz and others.

On a complaint, the police registered FIR for violating the sanctity of the Quaid’s mausoleum.

She said: “Police broke my room’s door at the hotel where I was staying at in Karachi and arrested Capt. Safdar.”

In a tweet, Maryam Nawaz said she was staying at there.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders had filed a complaint against Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Safdar among 200 PML-N workers at the Brigade Police Station in Karachi for chanting slogans at the Mazar-e-Quaid.

According to the FIR, the case registered under Section 6 (convening of meetings or processions at the mausoleum), Section 8 (entry into mausoleum with weapon) and Section 10 (penalty for contravention of provisions) of The Quaid-i-Azam’s Mazar (Protection and Maintenance) Ordinance, 1971.

On Sunday, the PML-N leaders had paid a visit to the Mazar-e-Quaid.

They visited there prior to Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) rally in Karachi.

They also raised political slogans at the mausoleum.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and provincial minister Saeed Ghani condemned the arrest.

In a tweet, he termed the manner in which Karachi police arrested PML-N leader Captain (retd) Safdar condemnable.

However, Saeed Ghani admitted it action of Captain (retd) Safdar at Quaid’s mausoleum as inappropriate.

But he clarified that Sindh government had not ordered his arrest.

Hence he this action of police as an attempt to create division in parties of the PDM.

However, he said this conspiracy will be foiled.

On the other hand, PTI-led federal government’s ministers slammed PML-N leaders Safdar.

They criticised him for raising slogans at the tomb of founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said that mental backwardness of these people has come to the fore.

He said Captain Safdar’s brain is like that of a small child.

Fawad asked him and the PMLN to apologize for it.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz strongly condemned it.

He called use of the tomb of the father of the nation for politics as shameful.

Shibli suggested they should have instead apologized to the founder of Pakistan for ruthlessly looting to country.
