Well known Urdu poet Rehan Azmi passes away today (Tuesday) in Karachi.
Born in July 1958, Syed Rehan Abbas Rizvi was known as Rehan Azmi.

Although he penned ghazals, nohas and marsias became his identity throughout his life.
In Urdu nohas and marsias, Rehan Azmi emerged as a living legend since late 1980s.
During 1990s, he became a symbol of Urdu nohas and marsias across the world.
However, eminent singers such as Hassan Jahangir also sang his poetry in songs.
Mr. Azmi also penned poetry for national songs.
He was ailing for some time and had undergone treatment.
He left behind a rich legacy for the poets of Urdu nohas and marsias.
According to the family sources, the funeral prayers will be held in Jafar-e-Tayyar Society after Maghrib-Isha prayers (Maghribaen).
