Opposition in majority in Senate despite PTI holds single largest party.

Ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has emerged as the majority party in the Senate after the votes for 37 seats Wednesday.

But opposition alliance has gained an upper hand over the ruling coalition in the 100-member upper house of the parliament.

PTI-led coalition rules Pakistan due to majority in lower house of the Parliament.

Now, the number of members of the opposition alliance in Senate rose to 53.

They include 20 Senators from the PPP, 18 from the PML-N, five from the JUI-F, two each from ANP, PkMAP National Party, one from BNP-Mengal and two independents. Independents include:, Shamim Afridi and a woman Senator from Balochistan.

On the other hand, the number of ruling coalition has 47 Senators.

They include: 26 Senators from PTI, 12 from BAP, three from MQM-P, one each from PML-Q and Muslim League Functional and four independent Senators.

As per new party position, the opposition parties alliance enjoy a 6-member lead over the ruling coalition.

However, election of Yusuf Raza Gilani as Senator has shaken the ruling PTI (Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf).

Finally, he won the general seat of Senate from Federal Capital. He secured 169 votes against the 164 votes gone to Abdul Hafeez Sheikh of PTI.

Opposition parties had jointly fielded former prime minister Gilani (from PPP) for the Senate seat.
