After three days of torrential rain Gwadar declared calamity-hit city

The government of Balochistan imposed rain emergency in Gwadar and declared it calamity-hit after three days of heavy rains wreaked havoc in the city.

Gwadar has received over 183mm of rain in the last two days, crippling daily life and rendering hundreds of people homeless.The rainwater entered houses and shops, driving people out of their shelters.

More than two hundred and fifty houses have been reportedly damaged till now while over 20 people have been injured due to flood and other rain related incidents. People of these damaged houses have been shifted to rescue centers.

Balochistan caretaker Minister for Information Jan Achakzai said that two out of six disconnected roads from Gwadar city have been restored, and around 300 individuals have been safely relocated, adding that nearly 80 boats were also dispatched to the area for evacuation.

Pakistan Army troops have already been mobilized for rescue and relief operations since torrential rains lashed Gwadar, Surbandar and Jiwani.

Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Balochistan said moderate to heavy rainfall was expected in Kech, Gwadar, Jewani, Ormara, Panjoor, Quetta, Pishin, Chaman, Kila Saifullah, Kila Abdullah, Ziarat, Zhob, Sherani, Awaran, Khuzadar, Harnai and adjoining areas in the next 24 hours.
