Apple beats Samsung became top smartphone seller in 2023

Apple has become the world’s top smartphone seller, by selling 234.6m iPhone units in 2023.

Apple broke Samsung 12-year run as industry leader for leading the smartphone seller, samsung sold 226.6m in 2023.

The market share of  Samsung is 19.4%, while Apple commanded a 20.1% market share. Apple high-end devices, accounted for more than 20% of the market.

Apple is well established as the largest smartphone maker in terms of revenues and profits but led the terms of volume first time in the history.

The three next largest smartphone makers were Xiaomi Corp., Oppo and Transsion Holdings Co. Ltd. They sold a combined 343.9 million devices, accounting for nearly a third of worldwide shipments. The industry’s other handset makers, in turn, shipped just over 360 million units.

International Data Corporation (IDC) said that the consumers bought a total of 1.16 billion smartphones in 2023, a year-over-year decline of 3.2%.

A week ago Microsoft became the world’s most valuable company, surpassing Apple, at $2.903 trillion. Apple market capitalization was estimated at $2.886 trillion. Microsoft and Apple have jostled for top spot over the years.
