Car prices in Pakistan are set to rise due to the introduction of a new Green Tax in the proposed 2025–26 budget. This 1% tax applies to the ex-factory price of most petrol, diesel, and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), making both entry-level and high-end cars more expensive.
The Green Tax is part of the government’s effort to promote eco-friendly transport. However, it will not apply to electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) that can drive at least 50 kilometers on electric power alone. Unfortunately, standard HEVs like the Toyota Corolla Cross, Haval H6 HEV, Jolion Hybrid, Kia Sportage Hybrid, and Hyundai Elantra Hybrid don’t meet this requirement and will be taxed.
“For Suzuki Alto, prices range from Rs.2,827,000 for VXR Upgraded variant to Rs.3,140,000 for VXL AGS Upgraded variant, with green tax adding between Rs.28,270 to Rs.31,400 respectively.”
