Punjab to block vehicle registrations of token tax defaulters

27 October, 2025 18:57

The Punjab government has started a strict action against token tax defaulters and announced that registrations of more than 500,000 vehicles will be suspended across the province.

According to the Director General of Excise and Taxation, vehicle owners who do not pay their token tax by October 31 will face registration suspension. Punjab has over 1.4 million registered vehicles that must pay token tax.

Out of these, around 900,000 owners have already cleared their dues in the first four months of the current fiscal year.

So far, the department has collected over Rs 5 billion in token tax revenue. However, more than 500,000 vehicle owners have still not made their payments.

DG Excise Umer Sher Chattha said that during road inspections, major tax defaulters will have their vehicles impounded on the spot. He also mentioned that unregistered government and private vehicles will be blocked under this new enforcement drive.

The Excise Department has urged all vehicle owners to pay their token tax before the deadline to avoid penalties and suspension.
