Early Life and Military Service
Craig Morgan was born on July 17, 1964, in Kingston Springs, Tennessee. At the age of 18, he became an emergency medical technician before serving nine and a half years in the US Army.
He was part of the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions and participated in the 1989 U.S. Invasion of Panama. On July 29, 2023, Morgan re-enlisted in the US Army Reserve at the Grand Ole Opry, with his oath administered by Gen. Andrew Poppas and support from Senator Marsha Blackburn.
Transition to Music and Early Career
After his military service, Morgan took on various jobs, including construction, security, and Walmart, before pursuing a career in music.
He became a demo singer in Nashville, which led to his first record deal with Atlantic Records. His debut single, “Something to Write Home About,” reached No. 39 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.
Breakthrough with Broken Bow Records
Following the closure of Atlantic Records’ Nashville division, Morgan signed with Broken Bow Records in 2002. He released three studio albums with the label:
- I Love It (2003) – Included the top-ten hit “Almost Home,” which won a BMI Song of the Year award. The album also featured “Every Friday Afternoon” and “Look at Us.”
- My Kind of Livin’ (2005) – Featured the No. 1 hit “That’s What I Love About Sunday,” which topped the Billboard country charts for four weeks and was the longest-running No. 1 since 1977. Other hits included “Redneck Yacht Club” (No. 2) and “I Got You.”
- Little Bit of Life (2006) – Produced hit songs like “Tough” and “International Harvester.”
In 2008, Morgan released a Greatest Hits album before moving to BNA Records.
Success with BNA Records
At BNA Records, Morgan released the album That’s Why, which featured the top-ten hit “Love Remembers.” The album was later re-released with the songs “Bonfire” and “This Ain’t Nothin’.” His last BNA single, “Still a Little Chicken Left on That Bone,” peaked at No. 37 before he left the label in 2011.
Later Career with Black River Entertainment
Morgan then signed with Black River Entertainment, where he collaborated with Colt Ford on “She Likes to Ride in Trucks.” In 2012, he released the album This Ole Boy, with the title track reaching the Top 20. Later, he released A Whole Lot More to Me (2016).
