Who Was Mia Love?

Mia Love broke barriers in American politics when she was elected to represent Utah’s 4th Congressional District, serving from 2015 to 2019. Her election marked a historic milestone as she became the first Black woman in U.S. history to serve in Congress as a Republican.

Her political career began in 2003 when she won a seat on the Saratoga Springs, Utah, city council. She later became the city’s mayor, where she gained recognition for her leadership and conservative policies.

A Complex Relationship with Trump

During her 2016 re-election campaign, Love distanced herself from then-candidate Donald Trump after a controversial 2005 recording surfaced in which he made crude remarks about women. She took a firm stance, skipping the Republican National Convention and publicly announcing that she would not support Trump in the election.

After leaving Congress in 2019, Love remained an influential voice in political discourse. She joined CNN as a political commentator and later became a fellow at the University of Sydney, continuing to engage in discussions on policy and leadership.
