Who is Weezer Bassist? What we know about police shooting of Weezer bassist's wife
Jillian Shriner, an author and spouse of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was injured in an officer-involved shooting and arrested Tuesday in Los Angeles on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the LAPD. The incident unfolded in the Eagle Rock neighborhood while police were investigating an unrelated hit-and-run.
What Happened:
Officers tracking suspects from a hit-and-run case entered the backyard of a residence when they noticed Shriner, 54, armed with a handgun at a neighboring home. Police repeatedly ordered her to drop the weapon, but she allegedly refused and pointed the gun at officers, prompting them to open fire. Shriner was struck by gunfire, retreated into her home, and later surrendered. She was taken into custody and treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Aftermath:
Shriner was released Wednesday after posting $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court April 30. Police confirmed a 9mm firearm was recovered from the scene but clarified she had no apparent link to the hit-and-run they were initially investigating. Two suspects from the hit-and-run remain at large, while a third was briefly detained and released.
Video Evidence:
Footage from local affiliates showed Shriner exiting her home with her hands up before lying face down on the ground as officers handcuffed her. Later, medics assisted her into an ambulance.
Background:
Shriner is best known for her 2010 memoir, Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, detailing her time in the harem of Brunei’s Prince Jefri Bolkiah. Married to Scott Shriner since 2005, her arrest comes days before Weezer’s scheduled Coachella performance this weekend. The band, added to the festival lineup last month, is set to play the Mojave stage on Saturday.
