In an interview, Gayheart, 53, said she and Dane, 52, remain “the best of friends,” despite no longer being romantically involved. “We are really close. We are great co-parents,” she noted. “We’ve truly figured out how to stay a family, and I think our kids are reaping the benefits, as are we.”

Marriage, Separation, and Co-Parenting

Gayheart and Dane were married in October 2004 after meeting in 2003. In February 2018, Gayheart filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. At the time, both actors issued a statement emphasizing their ongoing friendship and commitment to co-parenting their daughters, Billie (15) and Georgia (13).

Their divorce remained pending for several years until March 2025, when Gayheart officially withdrew her petition. The move came just one month before Dane shared his ALS diagnosis with the public on April 10, 2025.

Despite their separation, the couple has continued to present a united front for their children. “Eric and I are doing our best to co-parent and maintain a family,” Gayheart said in a 2019 interview with People. “We’re legally still married but separated — and I think we’re doing a pretty good job.”

The family even vacationed together in Paris in August 2022, which Gayheart proudly documented on Instagram with the caption, “This is us, family vacay 2022.”
