Bhoomi Chauhan, a resident of Bharuch, was set to board Air India flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London. She was returning to her husband after a short visit to India. She was not allowed to board. Upset and disappointed, she was about to leave the airport when she received shocking news—the flight had crashed just minutes after takeoff.
“I began shivering. My legs were trembling. I couldn’t believe what I heard,” Bhoomi said. “My Ganpati ji saved me.”
A Mother’s Relief
Bhoomi’s mother also spoke to the media. “She left her child with me and traveled alone. God protected her. My granddaughter is the reason Bhoomi is still alive. It’s a miracle,” she said, with folded hands and tears in her eyes.
Bhoomi’s escape from this crash has gone viral on social media, with many calling it a sign of divine protection.
Flight AI 171 Crash Details
Flight AI 171 took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at around 1:30 PM. It crashed within seconds into the residential quarters of BJ Medical College in the Meghaninagar area.
The aircraft had 242 people on board—239 passengers, two pilots, and 10 crew members. Only one person survived: Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British-Indian. He suffered chest injuries and was taken to the civil hospital.
“I heard a loud noise 30 seconds after takeoff. Then, everything went dark,” Vishwash said.
What Could Have Caused the Crash?
Officials say the pilot issued a ‘Mayday’ call right after takeoff. This means a full emergency was declared. Experts suggest that the plane may have suffered a bird strike or engine failure. Both engines possibly lost thrust.
A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the incident, according to Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.
