Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Diego Leon, a talented young left-back from Cerro Porteño, Paraguay.
The 18-year-old joined the Red Devils after turning 18 in April 2025, which made the move possible under international transfer rules.
Leon had already signed with United during the January 2025 transfer window, but the deal was delayed until he became eligible to move abroad.
A Star from South America
Diego Leon came through the youth academy at Cerro Porteño and made his senior debut in July 2024. Despite being a teenager, he quickly earned a regular spot in the starting XI.
In just one season, Leon played 33 matches, scoring 4 goals from the left-back position—an impressive feat for a defender.
His quick rise and attacking contributions caught the attention of Manchester United scouts, who acted fast to secure his signature.
Leon’s Ambitions at United
Before boarding his flight to England, Diego Leon made a confident statement: “Everyone thinks I’ll go out on loan, but I don’t have that mindset. I’m going to kill it in the preseason. In one or two games, I’ll already be playing with them.”
This fighting spirit reflects the determination United fans love. Leon has made it clear he wants to earn a spot in the first team right away, not spend time on the sidelines.
Club’s Official Announcement
Manchester United confirmed the signing through a statement: “Manchester United are delighted to announce the signing of exciting young defender Diego León, subject to registration. The Paraguay youth international has joined from Cerro Porteño in his homeland.”
“The talented full-back has already played 33 senior games, scoring four goals for his club. León reached the age of 18 in April and will be supported by our first team and Academy while settling into life in Manchester.”
Leon will now join other promising left-backs at United like Patrick Dorgu and Harry Amass, as manager Rúben Amorim builds for the future.
