Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed Yulia Svyrydenko to become Ukraine’s next prime minister. The announcement was made on Sunday, July 14, 2025, following a key government meeting. If confirmed, she will take on the role with the goal of leading major reforms and guiding the country through economic recovery and reconstruction.
“I look forward to seeing the new government’s action plan presented in the near future,” President Zelenskyy said in a post on social media.
Who Is Yulia Svyrydenko?
Yulia Svyrydenko is currently First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy. She has become one of Ukraine’s most trusted government officials during wartime. Her strong role in recent international agreements has placed her in the spotlight.
Key Role in Ukraine–US Minerals Deal
On April 30, 2025, Svyrydenko led Ukraine’s delegation to Washington. There, she signed a major agreement with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The deal created a joint Reconstruction Investment Fund that manages revenues from Ukraine’s critical minerals, including rare earths, oil, and gas.
Svyrydenko called the deal a “mutually beneficial partnership”. She emphasized that it strengthens both security and economic ties between Ukraine and the United States.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Svyrydenko was born in Chernihiv on December 25, 1985. She graduated from Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics in 2008 and began her career as a financial economist.
In 2011, she worked in Wuxi, China, leading Chernihiv’s trade mission. She attracted foreign investment to Ukraine and helped launch businesses like Eko-Vtor, a firm backed entirely by international funds.
From Regional to National Leadership
In 2015, she entered public service in Chernihiv’s regional administration. By 2017, she was acting as the region’s top official and helped bring over $340 million in foreign direct investment—80% of the total during that period.
Her success in regional leadership brought her to Kyiv. In 2019, she became Deputy Minister of Economy and was promoted the following year. Later, she served in President Zelenskyy’s office overseeing investor relations and economic strategy.
She also chaired the Presidential Council for Business Support, aiming to strengthen Ukrainian entrepreneurship and job creation.
Recognitions and Leadership Style
Svyrydenko has been awarded the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Honorary Certificate for her service. She is known for being practical, results-driven, and deeply focused on Ukraine’s economic independence and recovery.
In May 2025, she announced that the US-Ukraine Reconstruction Fund had officially launched, marking a new phase of international support for rebuilding Ukraine.
