Slawosz Uznanski is a well-known Polish scientist, engineer, and astronaut candidate. He has gained fame recently for being selected as a reserve astronaut by the European Space Agency (ESA). Who is Slawosz Uznanski? Early Life and Education

Slawosz Uznanski was born in Poland in 1984. From a young age, he loved understanding how things work. He studied hard and earned several degrees in electronics and engineering.

He first completed his M.Sc. (with honors) from the Technical University of Lodz, Poland. Then he moved to France to continue his studies. In 2008, he earned two more degrees: an M.Sc. from Université de Nantes and a Diplôme d’Ingénieur from Polytech’Nantes. After that, he earned a Ph.D. from the University of Aix-Marseille in 2011, also with honors.

Career Path and Achievements

During his Ph.D., Uznanski worked as a radiation effects engineer at STMicroelectronics. He helped develop radiation-hardened technology for space use.

In 2011, he joined CERN, one of the world’s leading scientific research centers. There, he led important radiation test projects for the European Space Agency. In 2013, he became a project lead at CERN, developing radiation-tolerant power converter control systems. His work has contributed to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) since 2017.

From 2018 to 2020, Slawosz was in charge of the LHC, one of the most important machines in particle physics. His leadership and engineering skills earned him a spot in the ESA astronaut reserve in 2022. He is the second Polish astronaut ever selected by a space agency, after Mirosław Hermaszewski, who flew to space in 1978.

In 2024, Uznanski was chosen for the Axiom Mission 4. He completed tough training for this mission and returned to Earth on July 15, 2025, after successfully completing it.
