During a recent expedition on K2, the world’s second-highest and one of the most dangerous peaks, Pakistani mountaineer Muhammad Iftikhar Hussain tragically lost his life after being struck by an avalanche.
Four Mountaineers Caught in Avalanche
According to Shigar Deputy Commissioner Arif Hussain, four climbers were caught in the avalanche. Among them, three were foreign mountaineers who sustained minor injuries and were quickly shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“All three foreign climbers sustained minor injuries and have been moved to a hospital,” the Deputy Commissioner confirmed.
Pakistani Mountaineer Iftikhar Hussain Passes Away
Unfortunately, Iftikhar Hussain, a Pakistani climber from the village of Sadpara, could not survive the avalanche. His body is being transported to Skardu and will be laid to rest in his hometown today.
“The mountaineer Muhammad Iftikhar belonged to the village of Sadpara, where he will be laid to rest today,” added the Deputy Commissioner.

K2 remains a formidable challenge for mountaineers due to its steep terrain, unpredictable weather, and high avalanche risks. Over the years, it has claimed numerous lives, including seasoned climbers.
